OUT OF A BACKSLIDE
In God's amazing plan we've often found purpose in problems. Bible Study Outreach Ministries was birthed out of a backslide. After 10 years of being in the wilderness and attempting to find God, in his consciousness, Don Tatum, along with a close friend and his great aunt, the late Virgie Cato, began to explore Scripture. During that time Don began to attend a ministry pastored by a young man, who also came out of a backslide, and the Word of God became more real.
Over time the Bible Study of three people began to draw others and eventually branched out to other sites. Meetings were held in various locations culminating into one major location; the home of Verna Barron and her sister the late Geraldine Richard. From this point as the Lord willed, we moved from place to place with the members of the Bible Study attending various churches of their own. But the Bible Study continued to grow.
"TO SEEK AND TO SAVE THAT WHICH WAS LOST" (Lu. 19:10)
As the Gospel spoke to the people in the Bible Study, there was a desire to put the Word that God had given us into life, and we began to seek to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). We began a street feeding program, became chaplains in youth detention centers, began Bible studies in group homes, Senior facilities, nursing homes, women's and men's transitional housing, (see the Outreach page for more information).
